This was a delightful and adventurous story of the three children and their dog, getting lost in the woods. I really enjoyed the story line and it kept me wanting to read more. The children were very brave, even when they had to sleep on the hard ground at night. The little 5 year old brother made them fire by rubbing two sticks together, ( his father had tough him). They ate berries and mushrooms, & even boiled water before drinking it. They had to climb trees when wolves came, & their dog helped by getting the wolves to chase it. On the third day a young man (Daniel) the oldest girl doesn't like, found them. They all ended up spending another night in a bad rain storm. But the boys built a lean to, so it helped keep them a little dryer. Daniel & the oldest girl Rebekah got to talk & get a misunderstanding talked out. Daniel apologised for something he had done years earlier. So it ends up Rebekah falls in love with Daniel & agrees to let him court her. They finally make it home & plan to start the courtship, at the next Sunday singing.IT ENDS ABOUT THERE. This is the ONLY part I don't care for. I think they ended the story to abruptly, & that is why I am only giving it a 4 rating.

Thrown to the Wolves The Faith in Peril Trilogy Book 1 edition by Holly Newcastle Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Always enjoy stories of the Amish. The books are always free of gutter language and 4 letter words so distracting in so many books nowadays. Reading how the siblings survived being lost in the woods with wolves and other animals around and their ingenuity , even that of the 5 year old boy who became the "man" and built fires for heat. Gave it only 4 stars because the story dragged at times and their trials went on and on a bit too long. A good start to the Trilogy
The dog provided the most entertainment in this book--{Spoiler alert} so when the dog was killed in the midst of their adventures the book kind of slowed down from there. It was interesting, if for no other reason than to see the author keep the book moving through 3 days of children wandering through the woods with no particularly interesting occurrences (other than their dog). It was just a little bit incredible that a 5 year old could make fire from sticks. Maybe it's not as hard to do as I've been led to believe.
Intriguing story with realistic dialogue and action. This story does not have a predictable narrative. The writer depicts the 19th century old order Amish as compassionate and caring to others of their sect in ways dissimilar from their twentieth century counterpart. The skill set of a young Amish boy seemed almost unbelievable. He is the youngest of the trio of lost children but the most skilled survival. He could built a safe fire and knew how to escape the wolves. In comparison to 20th century Amish 5 year olds he is quite skilled.
Two things kept me from giving this 5 stars First book A five-year-old who behaves as if he were much older, and the fact that the books in this series need serious proofing. 3rd book "illusive" and "elusive" are not interchangeable, nor are "then" and "than". In response to a question of one's well-being, "Fair to midland" is obviously incorrect.
That said, I quite enjoyed the books, and read the series straight through, and I'm not sorry I bought them.
This wasn't your ordinary Amish book. The author did a great job of helping us feel each characters feelings throughout the book, understanding how the three characters became so lost and turned around in the forest. I could feel how scared, and how they went into their survival mode. The experiences they went through were very realistic, I was glad it wasn't an easy way out for them. It ended in a fun way also. I also liked the internal conflict, and how forgiveness isn't always an easy thing to give. I enjoyed this book and will read this author again. Enjoy!
I have read hundreds of Amish novellas. I especially enjoyed the unexpected twists and turns this book took. Most of the story centered around three siblings getting lost in the woods for several days. Rebekah ended up finding love during her outdoor adventures.
There were a few errors in this bok that could easily be corrected to make it a five star read. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Amish fiction. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Interesting preview, getting to know the family, the secrets and wishes they are hoping for. To be eighteen, Rebekah and the one you hope will court you, chooses another girl. Daniel has been waiting for two years, and finally won’t ask again. With a bouquet of flowers and words of you are beautiful. It took their five year old brother wandering off, and them getting lost in the woods, Who came and was determined to find her was Daniel. It gave them a time to open up and forgive. The beginning of courting she has now agreed.
